Because awards are insignificant, but blogs are not

We have a winner

Thank you all for joining us at the first, and undoubtedly the most glittering, awards ceremony of the 2007 blogging season. Please charge your glasses and be upstanding, for the fat lady is about to sing and the final hurrah is about to be hurrah'ed. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it's time to name the much-anticipated winner of the first ever Insignificant Award.

Time magazine recently announced that their Person of the Year for 2006 was You. In a similar fashion, we at The Insignificant Awards have now reached our final decision about this prestigious new honour, and have decided that the winner is also You. And you. And you and you and him and her and them. All of you, in fact. Congratulations. However, we regret to say that we cannot send each of you one of the promised packets of cheap biscuits. Sorry, our meagre budget simply won't stretch to that.

Blogging is, by its very nature, insignifcant. And bloggers are insignificant in the grand scheme of things (whatever the newspapers might try and tell you). But some bloggers are more insignificant than others. The Insignificant Awards were only ever intended to highlight some of the lesser-known blogs of this world. Therefore, we at Insignificant Headquarters feel that our mission has been well and truly accomplished.

Thank you and goodnight, Vienna. We hope that each and every one of you has a safe journey home to your corner of the internet.
